Your PM-Kisan instalment hasn’t arrived. The portal shows your registration as “active,” yet the money isn’t reaching your account. In most such cases, the problem traces back to one of three things: Aadhaar not seeded with your bank account, e-KYC still pending, or land records that don’t match government data. This guide walks through the pm kisan eligibility rules for 2026, the exclusion categories that quietly disqualify thousands of families, and the exact steps to complete e-KYC and check your beneficiary status — so you can fix the gap yourself instead of paying an agent to do it.

The scheme provides ₹6,000 per year in three instalments of ₹2,000, transferred directly into Aadhaar-seeded bank accounts through the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) system. Eligibility is the first filter; verification is the second. Both must clear before any instalment is credited.

Who Qualifies as a Farmer Family

PM-Kisan treats the family — not the individual — as the unit of eligibility. A “farmer family” means husband, wife, and minor children. One family, one benefit.

To qualify, you must:

  • Own cultivable agricultural land registered in your name
  • Have that landholding recorded in government revenue records
  • Link your Aadhaar to an active bank account
  • Complete e-KYC verification

Urban farmers are not excluded. If you own cultivable land within municipal limits and it is genuinely farmed, you can apply — the scheme does not distinguish between rural and urban land.

Landholding Rules and Mandatory Conditions

Earlier versions of the scheme referenced a two-hectare ceiling for small and marginal farmers. Current guidelines extend coverage to all landholding farmer families, subject to the exclusion list below. The shift matters if you previously assumed you were ineligible because of land size.

Four conditions are non-negotiable:

Land ownership. Your name must appear in state land records — Khatauni in Uttar Pradesh, Khasra in several northern states, or the equivalent regional document.

Cultivable land. The land must be agricultural and actively used for cultivation. Barren, fallow, or non-agricultural land does not qualify.

Aadhaar seeding. Your bank account must be linked with your Aadhaar number. Without this, DBT payments cannot be processed — this is the single most common reason instalments fail.

e-KYC completion. Every beneficiary must complete electronic Know Your Customer verification. e-KYC is the digital process of confirming your identity against Aadhaar records; Aadhaar itself is the 12-digit identity number issued by the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI).

Who Is Excluded

Higher-income categories are excluded regardless of land ownership. If you fall into any of these groups, your application will be rejected or your existing benefits withdrawn:

  • Institutional landholders — trusts, companies, and similar entities
  • Present or former holders of constitutional posts
  • Present or former Ministers, State Ministers, MPs, and MLAs
  • Present or former Mayors and District Panchayat Chairpersons
  • Serving or retired Central/State government officers and PSU employees (Class IV/Group D employees excepted)
  • Retired pensioners drawing ₹10,000 or more per month (Class IV/Group D excepted)
  • Anyone who paid income tax in the last assessment year
  • Registered professionals — doctors, engineers, lawyers, chartered accountants, architects

One further complication: if multiple members of the same family are receiving benefits — both spouses, or an adult and a minor — the case is flagged for physical verification, and payments may be withheld until it is resolved.

Documents You Will Need

For self-registration or registration through a Common Service Centre (CSC) or State Seva Kendra, keep these ready:

  • Aadhaar card — mandatory for identity verification and e-KYC
  • Bank passbook or statement — showing account number and IFSC/MICR code
  • Land ownership documents — Khatauni, Khasra, or your state’s equivalent, with your name clearly recorded
  • Active mobile number — for OTPs and instalment notifications
  • Citizenship proof — Aadhaar or voter ID
  • Self-declaration form — confirming the accuracy of submitted information

If your Aadhaar is not yet linked to your bank account, visit your bank branch or a CSC to complete seeding before registration. Applications without Aadhaar-seeded accounts typically sit unprocessed.

How to Complete e-KYC and Check Your Status

Three e-KYC methods are available. Choose based on what you have access to.

OTP-based: Go to the official PM-Kisan portal (pmkisan.gov.in), open the e-KYC section, enter your Aadhaar number, and verify with the OTP sent to your registered mobile.

Biometric-based: Visit a CSC or State Seva Kendra with your Aadhaar card for fingerprint or iris verification.

Face authentication: Download the PM-Kisan app and the Aadhaar Face RD app, log in with your registered mobile number, enter your Aadhaar number, and complete the face scan.

To check beneficiary status:

  1. Open pmkisan.gov.in
  2. Click “Farmers Corner” in the top menu
  3. Select “Beneficiary Status”
  4. Enter your Aadhaar number, mobile number, or registration number
  5. Click “Get Data” — the page shows active/inactive status, e-KYC completion, and land-seeding status

Two pitfalls trip up most users. First, if your registered mobile number has changed since registration, the OTP will never arrive — update the number through the portal or at a CSC before attempting e-KYC. Second, the portal session times out quickly; keep your Aadhaar number and bank details on hand before you start, or you will be logged out mid-entry and have to begin again.

Common Mistakes That Delay Payments

Aadhaar not seeded with the bank account. This is the leading cause of missing instalments. DBT credits only to Aadhaar-linked accounts. If your bank account was opened or changed after registration, re-check the seeding status.

Mismatched land records. A misspelled name or outdated Khatauni entry will fail verification. Get corrections made at the local revenue office before applying, not after rejection.

Changed mobile number. Without an updated number, you receive no OTPs and no instalment SMS. Update it through the portal or at a CSC.

Paying agents for free services. Self-registration on the portal or app costs nothing. Agents charging fees for the same steps are unnecessary.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Aadhaar mandatory for PM-Kisan?

Yes — for registration, e-KYC, and receiving benefits. Your Aadhaar must also be linked to your bank account for DBT payments to process.

Can both husband and wife receive benefits?

No. The scheme operates per family, and generally only one member receives the benefit. Cases of multiple family members enrolled are flagged for verification.

What if I own more than two hectares?

Current eligibility covers landholding farmer families broadly, subject to the exclusion list. The earlier two-hectare reference no longer limits coverage the way it once did.

How do I confirm my e-KYC is complete?

Check Beneficiary Status on pmkisan.gov.in — the status page displays whether e-KYC is done or pending.

My instalment hasn’t arrived. What now?

Check beneficiary status first. Confirm e-KYC is complete and Aadhaar is seeded with your bank. If both show correct but payment is missing, contact your bank or the local agriculture department.

Can urban farmers apply?

Yes, provided the land is cultivable, used for agriculture, and other eligibility conditions are met.

If your e-KYC is pending, complete it before the next instalment cycle closes — verification gaps are easier to fix now than after a payment fails. And if a correction still doesn’t reflect after two weeks, follow up in person at your bank branch or CSC rather than re-submitting online; duplicate requests often slow the process further. For current fees, deadlines, or state-specific rules, verify on the official PM-Kisan portal or with your local agriculture department, since guidelines change periodically.
